Retroconversion

Presently the users of the Library are using Catalogue Cards prepared manually for accessing books/periodicals etc. to bring the Library at par with other modern libraries in India and abroad, it has been decided to convert the bibliographical data of Library's printed book collection into machine readable form. With this aim, retrospective cataloguing and classification of printed books is being done and the data is being transferred to CD/ Hard Disk for making the records available on-line. Collection of English, Hindi, Urdu & Arabic books has so far been covered. Further 8000 Persian books have been successfully retroconverted so-far and work is in progress for the remaining part of the collection. The data will be shortly available on-line to readers.

Digitization of Manuscripts

The Library possesses about 21,000 manuscripts, which includes paintings as well. A project of digitization and creating database of these manuscripts has been taken up with a view to -
  1. Conservation
  2. Access
  3. Publication on demand and
  4. Preservation of the digital images.

To start with, digitization of 10 lakh (10,00,000) pages has been undertaken as Pilot Project. The Pilot Project has been assigned to the National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI). The work is expected to be completed in a few months.
